Name: Paris Aristotle
The highly esteemed Director of the Victorian Foundation for Survivors
of Torture. The organisation, which Paris was employed to establish in
1987, offers counseling and rehabilitative services to refugee survivors
of torture and trauma.
Beyond his important work with the VFST, Paris was appointed as a part
time Commissioner of the Victorian Law Reform Commission in 2002. He also
holds several positions on government advisory bodies such as the Federal
Government's Refugee Resettlement Advisory Council and the Immigration
Detention Advisory Group. Paris is a current board member of Adult Multicultural
Education Services and a former board member of the Northern Health Service.
Paris has recently been a member of the UNHCR Executive Committee on Resettlement
and Integration and was recently made a Member of the Order of Australia
for his highly valuable, and much respected, work with refugees, in particular
survivors of torture.
