Name: Kon Karapanagiotidis
The founder and coordinator of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. The
Asylum Seeker Resource Centre is Australia's largest asylum seeker aid,
health and advocacy organisation. He has worked with marginalised communities
including the homeless, survivors of sexual abuse and asylum seekers for
the past 14 years as a social worker, lawyer and educator.
Kon has a strong commitment to human rights and social justice and is
currently focusing his energies on trying to end Australia's inhuman refugee
policies. Kon and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre have been recognised
for their work with a number of awards such as the HREOC human rights
award (community), St Michael's medallion and PILCH pro bono award for
their contribution to human rights. In his spare time Kon follows his
beloved Carlton football club, enjoys traveling and spending time with
friends.
