Who We Are / Our Objectives / EastWeb: A New Approach to Philanthropy

Name: Arnold Zable

The author of 'Café Scheherazade', 'The Fig Tree', 'Wanderers and Dreamers', 'Jewels and Ashes' and most recently, 'Scraps of Heaven'. During the 1970s, Arnold lectured in both social sciences and environmental studies at the University of Melbourne. Arnold has won numerous awards in literature, and now teaches creative writing and works as a freelance journalist.

His literature explores themes of ethnicity, race, memory, community and the tapestry of cultural identity, and these themes transfer to his work with immigrant and indigenous communities. Arnold speaks passionately about displacement, community, indigenous education and contemporary concepts of 'multiculturalism'. Arnold is active as Melbourne PEN International's spokesman on refugee issues and also dedicates much of his time to working with refugees in detention.
